The Story:
December 9,
1967 Jim Morrison marked the first of many incidents while in concert. During a show in New Haven, Connecticut he
was arrested for attempting to incite a riot by telling the crowd that the
police had sprayed him and journalist Patricia Keneally with mace backstage
just before the concert.
Then in
March 1, 1969, Jim was at it again. During another concert, this time in
conservative Miami, Florida, Morrison was arrested for exposing himself on
stage and using profanity. The legal
troubles caused the group to loose their bookings for the next several months.
Thankfully they still had their hit records that continued toclimb the charts
to keep them in drugs, drink and women.
Morrison was
brought to trial and aquitted of the charges of lewd and lascivious behavior.
He was however, guilty of indecent exposure and profanity and was sentenced to
eight months in prison. The verdict was appealed and Jim remained free on bail.
Tired of the whole scene and the prospects of going to jail, Jim and
girlfriend, Pamela moved to Paris, France.
James Marshall "Jimi"

Jimi Hendrix
was arrested at Toronto International Airport airport in May 1969 after customs
inspectors found heroin and hashish in his luggage. Hendrix, who claimed the
drugs were slipped into his bag by a fan without his knowledge, was later
acquitted of the charges.
John R. "Johnny" Cash
Date Arrested: May 11th, 1965
The Story:
Cash was arrested
on May 11, 1965, in Starkville, Mississippi, for trespassing late at night onto
private property to pick flowers. (This incident gave the spark for the song
"Starkville City Jail", which he spoke about on his live At San
Quentin prison album.)
Johnny
Cash's final arrest was in Walker County, Georgia where he was taken in after
being involved in a car accident while carrying a bag of prescription pills.
Cash attempted to bribe a local deputy, who turned the money down, and then
spent the night in a LaFayette, Georgia jail. The singer was released after a
long talk with Sheriff Ralph Jones, who warned him of his dangerous behavior
and wasted potential. Johnny credited that experience for saving his life, and
he later came back to LaFayette to play a benefit concert that attracted 12,000
people (the city population was less than 9,000 at the time) and raised $75,000
for the high school.
Cash felt
great compassion for prisoners. He began performing concerts at various prisons
starting in the late 1950s. His first ever prison concert was held on January
1, 1958 at San Quentin State Prison. These performances led to a pair of highly
successful live albums, Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison (1968) and Johnny Cash at
San Quentin (1969).
In addition
to his performances at U.S. prisons, Cash also performed at the Österåker
Prison in Sweden in 1972. The live album På Österåker ("At
Österåker") was released in 1973. Between the songs, Cash can be heard
speaking Swedish, which was greatly appreciated by the inmates.
Kurt Donald Cobain

The Story:
Cobain
befriended a homosexual student at school, and suffered bullying from
heterosexual students who concluded that Cobain was gay. In an interview he
said that he liked having the identity of being gay because he did not like
people and when they thought he was gay they left him alone. Kurt stated,
"I started being really proud of the fact that I was gay even though I
wasn't". His friend tried to kiss him and Kurt backed away and told his
friend he was not gay but would still be friends with him. In a 1993 interview
with The Advocate, Cobain claimed that he was "gay in spirit" and
"probably could be bisexual." He also stated that he used to spray
paint "God Is Gay" on pickup trucks in the Aberdeen area. However,
Aberdeen police records show that the phrase for which he was arrested was
actually "Ain't got no how watchamacallit". One of his personal
journals states, "I am not gay, although I wish I were, just to piss off
homophobes.
Brian Hugh Warner ‘Marlyn Manson

security guard. Who knows what inspired him to do so!

Marilyn Manson was arrested Dec. 27, 1994, after he allegedly exposed himself
on stage at a concert in Jacksonville, Fla. He was charged with violating the
local adult entertainment code, which prohibits nudity in clubs where alcohol
is served. Manson has written about the episode in his book, The Long Hard Road
Out of Hell, describing his night in jail as essentially a political punishment
from a pro-Baptist police force. The record indicates that, after several court
appearances, he paid a $100 fine. Manson, however, wrote that charges were
dropped due to lack of evidence -- indeed, the police report is ambiguous as to
whether Manson was actually nude on stage or simply appeared to be nude due to
a stage prop, described in the report as "a simulated black penis."
Both claims may be true: In misdemeanor cases, charges are often dropped after
a small fine is paid. The defendant's record is then expunged. The Florida
Department of Law Enforcement listed no criminal record for Manson as of March
2000.
Alfredo James "Al" Pacino

The Story:
Prior to roles in such Hollywood hits as Dog Day Afternoon,
The Godfather, Scarface, Carlito’s Way, Heat, and Donnie Brasco, actor Al
Pacino seemed like a character in one of his many movies after being arrested
on a concealed weapons charge on January 7, 1961 in Rhode island.
Although details of Pacino’s arrest are somewhat sketchy, the
initial arrest report indicates that a 21-year-old Al Pacino was traveling with
two other men in a vehicle when police pulled over their car and found a .38
caliber pistol in the trunk after searching the vehicle. As a result, all three
men, including Al Pacino, were taken into custody and charged. While all three
men shared a similar story, it was later revealed by someone close to the case
that at the time Al Palcino was helpful and friendly to police and cooperated
in a civil manner. Despite his cooperation with police, Al Pacino revealed that
he couldn’t pay the $2000 bail and spent three days in jail before being released.
According to reports and interviews by the men themselves,
Pacino and the others revealed that they were actors who were traveling to an
acting gig in New York City and were simply using the gun for their roles at
the time of their arrest. Although details have faded over time, it appears
that the police might not have bought the story since the three men were
allegedly stopped after officers noticed that the men, including Pacino, were
wearing black masks and matching gloves as their car passed. Charges were later
dropped and Al Pacino went on to a enjoy a legendary career as a movie actor,
having appeared in such films as Serpico, And Justice for All, Sea of Love,
Dick Tracy, Scent of a Woman, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Insider, and Insomnia.

"Ozzy" Osbourne

The Story:
In the arrest, he may have been called John Osbourne, but
he'll always be Ozzy Osbourne to us. The lead singer of Black Sabbath and
reality TV star was arrested by Memphis police officers in May of 1994 and
charged with public intoxication. Ozzy Osbourne was allegedly 'staggering
drunk' on Beale Street in Memphis in May of 2004 when the police took him in.
Ozzy Osbourne had very public battles
with drugs and alcohol for years and battled the
establishment at his concerts, but the arrest associated with his mugshot was a
relatively minor one, considering that Ozzy Osbourne once bit the head off a
dove at a record meeting. A police officer once arrested Ozzy Osbourne while on
tour in Texas after catching him drunk at 11am urinating by the Alamo.
The biggest arrest in the life of Ozzy Osbourne came in 1989
when his drug and alcohol addiction was at a ridiculous peak, one that once saw
the Black Sabbath lead singer get so messed up that he found a shotgun and
started shooting the family cats. In 1989, during one of his binges, Ozzy
Osbourne assaulted his wife Sharon Osbourne. Ozzy Osbourne was arrested and
released and he went straight to rehab. Sharon Osbourne and Ozzy Osbourne
survived the assault and it actually probably save the life of Osbourne, who
got clean and stayed with his wife for decades to come.

"Mick" Jagger

Charges: Mick Jagger & Keith Richards are
arrested in Rhode Island for assaulting a photographer
Action: A fight broke out between the
Rolling Stone's entourage and a photographer in 1972.
The Story:
Mick Jagger could find no satisfaction when the legendary
lead singer of The Rolling Stones was arrested for assault and obstruction of
police in 1972. The charges were eventually dropped but Mick Jagger was forced
to plead guilty before being released. The mugshot taken that night has become
legendary, but Mick Jagger wasn't actually the only Rolling Stone arrested that
night. Keith Richards, the guitarist from The Rolling Stones, was arrested with
Mick Jagger and three other members of the entourage of the legendary band. The
five people, including Mick Jagger, were arrested on charges of assault and
obstructing police. All five of them were arrested in Warwick, Rhode Island.
All five, including Mick Jagger, were arrested because of a scuffle with a
photographer and the incident caused a four-hour delay of their concert in
Boston that night. All of the charges were dropped but the photo lives on.
Mick Jagger actually faced tougher charges five years before
when the Rolling Stones singer and Keith Richards were arrested in Britain for
drug possession. In 1967, both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards spent brief
periods behind bars, but their prison sentences were overturned on appeal. The
drug legend that was Keith Richards was born, kind of overshadowing any
problems or arrests that are still on the record of Mick Jagger. Mick Jagger
went on to release dozens of smash hits and even appear in movies. The singer
of 'Paint It Black,' 'Sympathy For the Devil,' and many many more hits is a
rock and roll legend that's still going strong. Four decades after their first
arrest and 35 years after the mugshot that survives to this day, Arrest or not,
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are still going strong, touring to this day with
The Rolling Stones, one of the biggest bands of all time.
Jagger and Richards were arrested on drug charges and were
given unusually harsh sentences: Jagger was sentenced to three months'
imprisonment for possession of four over-the-counter pep pills he had purchased
in Italy. On appeal, Richards' sentence was overturned and Jagger's was amended
to a conditional discharge (he ended up spending one night inside Brixton
Prison)
John Simon Ritchie ‘Sid

The Story:
On the morning of 12 October 1978, Vicious claimed to have
awoken from a drugged stupor to find Nancy Spungen dead on the bathroom floor
of their room in the Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan, New York. She had suffered a
single stab wound to her abdomen and appeared to have bled to death. The knife
used had been bought by Vicious on 42nd Street and was identical to a
collector's knife given to punk rock vocalist Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys by
Dee Dee Ramone. According to Dee Dee's wife at the time, Vera King Ramone, Sid
had bought the knife after seeing Stiv's. Vicious was arrested and charged with
her murder. He said they had fought that night but gave conflicting versions of
what happened next, saying, "I never stabbed her. I loved her, but she
treated me like shit", then saying that he did not remember and at one
point during the argument Spungen had fallen onto the knife.
On the night of Nancy's death, there was a party going on in
their hotel room. She was rumoured to have been showing a lot of money. When
they found her dead the next day, the money had gone, as had Sid's knife. None
of the party guests have given evidence about what had happened.
